The mission of STAR (South Shore Sail Training + Racing) is to complement local youth sail training programs by (1) providing opportunity for increased time on water; (2) facilitating coach development; (3) and fostering a team environment that supports learning, positive relationships + local, national and international competition.

STAR's goal is to create a legacy of success in the St. Margarets Bay and South Shore areas. Founded by two local sailors - both experienced racers, former coaches and all-around wind + water lovers, one from St. Margaret SC, the other from Chester YC - we believe it's someone's duty to lead by example and uphold the long-standing reputation of Bay and South Shore sailors as the highly skilled, hardest working, most fun sailors there are.

We employ the best coaches in the region in their respective fleets. A supportive culture and strong training methods will be the cornerstone which will lead to both podium performances and FUN.

We believe in sailing clean and by the rules. We believe in consistency, intensity + high fives. We have zero appetite for bad attitudes.

Additionally, we believe that without strong coaches, we cannot develop strong sailors. STAR is the only sail training program in the region focuses equally on coach development as well as sailor development. If you're a STAR sailor, you believe in our credo. If you're not on board with this, you're not on board with our squad:
  1. We are sailors. Therefore, we sail as long, hard + as often as we can
  2. We always sail clean + within the rules
  3. We are curious, focused + goal-oriented
  4. We have more fun than anyone else + have a rep as the nicest sailors in the yard
  5. In training, we train. We do not try to 'win' training; we learn in training so we can win in racing
  6. We trust the process. We focus on the task + perform that task to the best of our ability, both in training + racing
  7. We help our fellow STAR sailors + other junior sailors become better.  We never put them down or make them feel less than
We do expect all STAR sailors to reflect our credo in their actions and words.

Sailors will be held accountable for their conduct. Anyone exhibiting less than sportsmans-like behaviour will be asked to take a break from the program.
