Each club with sailors attending should expect to have a coach attend as well. We encourage junior coaches to join as well. The goal is to spread knowledge.

Coach Development will begin one hour before every training session and run 30 minutes after sailors leave. Each coach participating will be in charge of planning and managing two weekends of training, with the Head Coach taking the first two weekends. Some of the sessions in Spring 2022 will be:

  • Learning to season plan
  • Goal setting (for both coaches + athletes)
    • Daily goals
    • Micro and macro goals
  • Briefs + debriefs
    • Length + content
    • Video + picture (angles, appropriate use)
    • Solo + group debriefs
  • Communication
    • Effective talk with kids
    • Effective race team communication with parents
  • Planning sessions
    • Warmup, drill sets, end of day racing
    • Planning for various skill levels
    • Managing issues
  • Regatta coaching versus training
    • Mental side of coaching
    • Planning a race day
    • Planning a hard block of training for training camps
    • Year-long periodized regatta planning
Coaches will also be required to develop, with help if necessary, presentations on Weather, Strategy, Starting Routines, Tacking Procedure and so on, and present them to the group.
