The STAR Opti team will be divided into three groups, Learn to Race, Intermediate Race and Advanced Race.
STAR LTR (Learn to Race) is for all Opti-aged sailors curious about learning the fundamentals of intro racing and, ideally, have participated in one season at a Green fleet level. STAR IR (Intermediate Race) requires a minimum of CANSail 2 and experience in Green fleet racing; STAR AR (Advanced Race) requires at least two years of experience competing in Opti Open.
Registration for STAR Spring opens January 24 to sailors from all South Shore clubs; and open to general registration beginning January 31, 2022.

STAR runs annually at SMSC every Spring and Fall with training camps at member clubs throughout the summer season, and attendance at national and international regattas as sailor interest dictates. We run squads for Opti, c420, Laser and 29er, as numbers allow and we like to fill the ranks with like-minded athletes that share similar attitudes and outlooks.

During the shoulder season (Spring + Fall) and off season (November through April), we will attend regattas according to the value and experience we expect the sailors to receive and according to sailor commitment / interest. Competition costs are not included in STAR program costs. Sailors that wish to compete at events locally, nationally or internationally, should expect to incur additional costs related to event registration, event-related coaching, travel, accommodations, and more.

Whether or not STAR sends a team to any particular out of province event will be determined by sailor interest. Events we would consider take place along the US Eastern Seaboard, Florida and across Canada.
